Many Rural Guatemalan Women and their Families Face an Uphill Challenge
They’re contending with:
- Limited access to education and training
- Limited earning opportunities
- Cultural hurdles
Our Training Provides Vital Education for Healthy Lives and Increased Opportunities for Women and Their Families
Key Training Elements to Uplift Women and Their Families Include:
- Educational opportunities to learn about nutrition education, the First 1,000 Days Program, the WASH program, and regenerative living practices
- Planting backyard farms and introducing animal husbandry to increase access to fresh vegetables, fruits, and abundant protein.
- Ongoing mentorship, cohort opportunities, and micro-business opportunities
How it Works
- Our program offers individualized educational opportunities and workshops focused on essential topics such as nutrition education, empowering women to make informed dietary choices for themselves and their families.
These training elements allow women to learn and embrace essential skills, contribute to overall household income, and foster a healthier, thriving community.
In this, they transition to being more self-empowered and confident in their abilities.
Collectively, this welcomes a positive ripple effect within their families and communities, leading to sustainable generational change.
- Program participants are encouraged to plant, nurture, and harvest permaculture gardens, allowing them to cultivate their own fruits and vegetables for increased food security and nutritionally dense food for their families.
By introducing animal husbandry, participants have an opportunity to raise chickens for meat or eggs, goats, or other small livestock, complementing their crop yields with fresh protein sources. This initiative enhances access to fresh produce and fosters self-sufficiency and improved income opportunities through the sale of excess harvest.
- Ongoing mentorship connects participants with experienced field team members who ensure guidance and support as the participants navigate challenges.
Cohort opportunities between neighboring members encourage collaboration and skill-sharing among participants, fostering a sense of community and collective empowerment. Micro-business opportunities equip women with the tools and resources necessary to start their own ventures, boosting economic resilience and encouraging entrepreneurship within their communities.
Today's Empowerment, Tomorrow's Leaders
When women and their families have the training, resources, education, and opportunities to succeed, they can uplift their communities, fostering better health, economic stability, social progress, and sustainable development.
These changes are generational, leading to those who come later to live brighter lives with knowledge, skills, and opportunities that are continually moved forward to later generations.
