												IRA QCD Frequently Asked Questions
A QCD allows for the direct transfer of funds from your IRA to a qualified nonprofit organization.
If you're 70½ or older, you can donate up to $100,000 tax-free annually through a QCD.
A QCD allows you to give to non-profits without incurring taxes from drawing on your IRA.
It can also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you're age 73 or older, potentially lowering your tax bill.
Anyone age 70½ or older with a traditional IRA can make a QCD. Other retirement accounts like 401(k)s or donor-advised funds don’t qualify for QCDs directly.
If you're age 73 or older, the IRS requires you to withdraw a certain amount each year from your traditional IRA—this is called your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). A QCD lets you donate part or all of your RMD directly to a qualified nonprofit like Seeds for a Future, satisfying your RMD without increasing your taxable income.
Yes. You can donate up to $100,000 per year per individual through QCDs. For married couples, each spouse can donate up to $100,000 from their own IRAs.
When you initiate the QCD, ask your IRA custodian to include your name and contact information with the check to Seeds for a Future. It’s also helpful to let the nonprofit know your gift is coming so they can properly acknowledge it.
